Ricky Sobers, 55, huddles with other former UNLV basketball players after the alumni game last month at the Thomas & Mack Center. Sobers was a Rebel from 1973 to 1975 and played 11 seasons in the NBA after being drafted by the Phoenix Suns in 1975. UNLV retired his jersey, No. 40, in 2004. Sobers, the school’s first basketball All-American and the No. 1 draft pick of the Suns in 1975, played two seasons with UNLV teams that went a combined 44-11.
