Boy, 2, dies after father accidentally runs over him
Friday, Dec. 19, 2008 | 6:31 p.m.
A 2-year-old boy died Friday in the driveway of his North Las Vegas home after his father accidentally ran over him, the North Las Vegas Police Department said.
North Las Vegas Police received a report at about 2 p.m. of a dead child brought by his parents to North Vista Hospital. Authorities said the boy's parents told hospital personnel that there had been an accident at their home.
Investigators responded to the home in the 2500 block off North Las Vegas Boulevard, where they determined that the boy had probably followed his father out of the house and wound up behind the vehicle. When the boy's father, 35, backed out of the driveway, he hit the child, police said.
Authorities said family members rushed the boy to North Vista Hospital, but he was dead by the time they arrived.
Investigators, who called the death "a tragic accident," said alcohol wasn't a factor, and authorities said the father has voluntarily given blood to be tested for drugs and alcohol.

A tragic, tragic accident.I hope the father can forgive himself in time so he can go on.Having happened so close to the holidays only worsens it.
