Henderson settles with Emerald Island Casino

The city of Henderson has reached a $65,000 settlement with Emerald Island Casino following a September crash involving a city vehicle that caused a power outage.

The agreement was approved Nov. 18 by City Council.

Officials said a city vehicle had pulled down two Nevada Power poles Sept. 24, creating a power outage that affected a number of businesses. Officials characterized the impact on Emerald Island as severe.

Henderson risk manager Bob Osip said workers were performing asphalt work on Navy Street around 3:15 p.m. when a vehicle claw toppled the wires. Workers, he said, had neglected to retract the boom.

“I believe (the electricity) was out around 12 hours,” Osip said.

The city reached settlements with five businesses and reimbursed Nevada Power as well, he said.
