Today it begins, perhaps the least special special session in Nevada history. Lawmakers are in Carson City to fix the budget, having been called to the capital by a governor who has no desire to really fix the budget. Way too much time will be taken with ceremonial nonsense such as the swearing in of new members. I can just hear state Sen. Allison Copening now as she is sworn in: “Why can’t we solve this with a lottery?” Bill Raggio will say what a wonderful guy Steven Horsford is and vice versa. The same pleasantries will be exchanged in the Assembly between Barbara Buckley and Heidi Gansert. The word “bipartisan” will be used 600 times in 48 hours. And then it will probably fall apart. Can’t wait for it to start.
