Publisher of Incline paper switchs to South Tahoe
Thu, Dec 4, 2008 (1:54 p.m.)
Mary Jurkonis is leaving her job as publisher of the North Lake Tahoe Bonanza in Incline Village to become the publisher of the Tahoe Daily Tribune in South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
Both newspapers are members of the Sierra Nevada Media Group owned by the Reno-based Swift Communications.
Jurkonis replaces Gail Powell-Acosta, who has left the newspaper, said Scott McElhaney, general manager of the group.
"I appreciate all that Gails done at the Tribune and wish her well," McElhaney said Wednesday.
Jurkonis begins her new duties Dec. 9. She has held a number of management positions with group during the past decade, including publisher of the Reno.com and Tahoe.com Web sites and advertising director at the Nevada Appeal in Carson City.
She formerly worked for several Bay Area newspapers, including the San Francisco Chronicle.
"Mary has a strong community newspaper background and I have a lot of confidence she will do well in her new role at the Tribune," McElhaney said.
The Sierra Nevada Media Group also includes newspapers in Truckee-North Tahoe, Gardnerville and Fallon.
