Letter to the editor:
Give talk radio from the far right a rest
Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008 | 2:03 a.m.
Barack Obama will be our 44th president on Jan. 20, 2009. I ask of you who still think to take a break for the next seven weeks from right-wing entertainers on radio and television.
These self-proclaimed “truth squads” need to let the process go forward and keep their biases to themselves. Entertainers such as Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and Laura Ingraham need to be given a message.
So stop listening and watching for the next seven weeks. If you are hooked on talk radio, tune in sports commentators Jim Rome, Colin Cowherd or Dan Patrick, all of whom are better entertainers than those on the far right.
After Jan. 20, try the right-wing entertainers again. You’ll recognize the slant and spite haven’t changed. Don’t thank me now. Wait until your mind has been cleared of the bias toward policies that haven’t worked for eight years.
Understand the entertainment quality. Forget the mindless blasts that will never be conducive to a strong 21st century. We must support the new direction mandated in the Nov. 4 election.
With the most capable Cabinet of our time, the best four years of our collective lives are at hand. Remember, the “righties” won’t acknowledge it, but that’s OK. Just smirk and smile.

I'm a hard-core Democrat and, as such, I'm also very open to the First Amendment and the right for people to speak their minds. What got me through this last election were shows such as Countdown with Keith Olberman. If the left can have its say with shows of that kind, why should not the right have its say as well? What are we so afraid of? More free speech? And whereas I'd like to see people be supportive of the President-elect, it is also a fact that many will never offer such support. Frankly, I wonder why you're allowing the right wing to get to you so badly. They are the best source of their own folly.
The best four years of our collective lives are at hand? What a choice of words! Let's start drinking early today in celebration.
Hey, Zeke ... you lose all credibility the instant you suggest Jim Rome, Colin Cowherd and Dan Patrick are entertaining.
Maybe Lush Bimbo could share some of his ocxycodone and we can all get a blast.
Maybe Obama could share some of his cocaine and we can all get a blast.
To hell with the drugs. Maybe Obama or Rush would be willing to share one of those fine Habana Monte Cristos they both like. That and a little Port. Yummy... Now, where's Monica?
nance, do you understand that BUSH did nose piles of cocaine too? Or do you also understand that Bush was ARRESTED for DUI? Funny thing about rocks and glass houses.
If was one your guys who threw the first rock.
I guess you need to inform him of your vast wisdom about throwing rocks in glass houses.
While I'd agree that the polarizing talk radio/tv markets do little to advance problem-solving, the fact that righ-leaning shows tend to trounce the Air America brand and its ilk must speak for something.
You paint your opponents with a rather large brush here. Is it animous toward the "righties" or as a true believer in the liberalism of today that gets you hot-and-bothered? Rabble-rousing though it may be from the right, on the left it is called radical and destructive.
The melioristic take on society is plain folly as it comes hand-in-hand with denial of history and tradition. The Johnny-come-lately ideologies from the left deny real aspects of human nature--such as man's violent proclivities--while advocating for a democracy as direct as possible (i.e. "mob rule," which, ironically, is at the dark side of human nature). Finally, the attacks at private property and the call for collectivism at the hands of a hegemonic government just stinks.
Yes, Barack Hussein Obama has provided for change--a vague platitude that is easily achieved. The most capable Cabinet of our time? With only half of the nominees as of yet? Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State... give me a break. Her political cache was attained in the house of cards built by her sleazeball husband, which is to say she has little merit at all.
A Clinton at Foggy Bottom is not the way to win or end wars. This duo are greater liars and just as entrenched in neoconservative orthodoxy when it comes to foreign policy as anyone in the Bush Administration.
You say the best four years of our collective lives are at hand. With radical, unprincipled policies at home and a foreign policy team that is shaping up not to deviate much from Bush 43's, the squawking from Rush or Hannity is merely trifling.
I say buckle your seatbelts, the ride will get even rockier.

Really nance? Where? Or do you mean the Rush/Oxy comment? That one's legit considering that Rush is so anti-drug, but had no problem munching down epic proportions of hillbilly heroin.
Yes, you are right that we should point out people's drug use, like your hero's Obama cocaine use.
Hmmmm.....Rush had a extreme back pain and got hooked on prescription drugs......what is exactly is Obama's excuse for snorting coke?
What's Bush's? For that matter why did Bush walk away from a DUI?
And I find it laughable that you cite Rush's back issues to support his Oxy benders. Last I checked he used Oxys way over what is perscribed and for that matter was obtaining Oxys way over his prescribed limits. So what was his excuse again? This coming from someone who advocates a zero tolerance platform on drugs.
Your argument:
1. Rush advocates zero tolerance on drugs
2. Rush is a hypocrite for abusing prescription drugs.
3. This is different than Obama.
So I guess Obama is not a hypocrite now because now he is weak on drug tolerance.
I accept that logic.
Nice thin air logic. Just pulling whatever you want...
I understand that Bush and Obama both did drugs for largely the same reasons. They were bored, had some money, wanted to experiment, etc. I find Bush is a hypocrit for wanting to bar students with drug records from receiving any federal financial aid. Considering Bush has done drugs, this is quite odd.
Obama is against drugs, but won't go to ludicrous lengths against them, because he knows good peole end up using.
Rush is a hypocrit because he became addicting and still spouts how drug users need to go to jail. Simple as that.
Oh.....Obama is just kinda against drugs.
Thanks for the 411.
"Thanks for the 411"
How about a houseboat that gets 2 mpg?
Thanks for the 411.
Not only are you inaccurate, probably intentionally so, but you cannot ever seem to repeat anything anyone else says accurately either. Where did redferret say Obama is just kinda against drugs?
By the way, ferret's right. Rush is a huge hypocrite. He's a drug abusing liar who makes a living by getting people upset. He is not credible and does not have to be. Anger and rage serve as his credibility. He's a windbag for the bucks, nothing more.
The problem with Rush and his ilk, but especially Rush, is the cult-like reverance he recieves from his "dittoheads". It's frightening to me that millions of people listen to this crap as though it's the freakin' Gospel.
He's like the wizard of Oz, for crying out loud.
You pull back the curtain, and it's just an old fat guy in there.
You guys like to have it both ways.
OK.....is Obama against drugs or just kinda against drugs?
You guys keep dancing back and forth on this.
Which is it?
If he is against drugs then according to your guys logic then he is hypocrite. Because according to you guys logic, once you used drugs then you are hypocrite for being against drug use.
If he is tolerate of drug use then he is not a hypocrite.
I am waiting for guys to dance up an answer.
Oh, I get it. If you are a Democrat then you can have affairs, use drugs, commit a felogy DUI and kill your passenger. It is a political thing....I get it. It is like that guy who is the 4th in line to be President and use to be a former KKK grand wizard.
Jim, the world is not comprised only of polarities. If it was, perhaps we would ban all drugs, including alcohol and tobacco and possibly even caffeine.
BTW, I think the embargo of Cuba is stupid. I believe we only hurt ourselves and the Cuban people by closing them off. But I'm not a Castro fan or a communist, and my opinion about the embargo does not make me one.
