The Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners on Monday suspended the licenses of two Las Vegas physicians, Dr. Stephen Seldon and Dr. Randall Foster.
The board also announced today that a complaint was filed against Dr. Clifford Carrol of the Endoscopy Clinic of Southern Nevada on Nov. 24.
Three violations were noted in a complaint filed Monday against Seldon by the staff of the medical board. The counts included conviction of a felony in U.S. District Court related to his practice of medicine; violation of a federal law regulating the possession, distribution or use of any dangerous drug, specifically Seldon’s purchase and administration of a drug that was not approved by the FDA for human use; and failure to exercise the skill or diligence of physicians in good standing.
“The Board of Medical Examiners found that the continued practice of medicine by Dr. Seldon in Nevada during the pendency of time necessary for a hearing on this complaint would endanger the health, safety and welfare of his patients,” the board said in a statement.
A hearing for Seldon has been set for May 4, 2009.
In a complaint filed against Foster, the board stated three violations: malpractice regarding the prescribing of controlled substances to four patients, failure to maintain accurate medical records regarding prescriptions and prescribing controlled substances in violation of applicable law.
Foster can still practice medicine in Nevada, but can’t prescribe, administer or dispense controlled substances. A hearing has been set for May 20, 2009.
A complaint against Carrol alleges four violations, including malpractice related to his care of patients with hepatitis C and malpractice in the performance of a colonoscopy, infecting a patient with hepatitis C. A hearing for Carrol has been set for June 22, 2009.
