Letter to the editor:
Obama as tax-raiser a GOP red herring
Fri, Aug 29, 2008 (2:03 a.m.)
Like a rusty wheel, the John McCain camp keeps saying a President Obama would raise taxes, and I know a lot of trusting Nevadans believe that is true. Now, Sen. McCain isn’t lying to you, he’s just being misleading.
You see, a President Obama, working with the Democratic majority in Congress, would not raise your taxes unless you belong to the 2 percent of Americans who are extremely wealthy and who were given overgenerous tax cuts by President Bush and congressional Republicans. They, and the oil companies and other corporations that were given tax breaks by Republicans, can expect to pay more in taxes. Now, you might ask why the Democrats would have to do that.
Well, the tax cuts pushed through by the Republicans these past eight years have increased the national debt by more than $3 trillion and guaranteed us an annual deficit of more than $400 billion. Americans for generations to come will have to try to pay off this enormous debt.
As everyone knows, our infrastructure is crumbling, our schools need more support, a plan for universal health care needs to be started, Medicare and Social Security need stabilizing, etc. Which of the candidates is better able to address these problems?
I think a President Obama, working with a Democratic majority, could work toward solving these problems. With John McCain we would just have more of the division in Washington that we have now with President Bush.

Obama is going to heavily raise taxes on capital job creation investments.
That will hurt Las Vegas and not help it.
We need jobs.
Obama is going to give middle class $1.95 more in tax cuts than McCain.
Wooooooeeeeeeeeeee......cheeseburgers for all.......just can not wait for that extra dough.
Yeah, it looks like Nance doesn't support Obama's tax cuts for the middle class, or Obama's plan to cut capital gains for entrepreneurs and small business owners.
Instead, he supports McCain, who's planning a health care scheme which would make health care benefits taxable... in effect increasing taxes on the middle class.
Increasing taxes on the middle class will not create jobs. Too bad Nance and McCain just don't get it.
McCain choice for vice president just sent back $5 Billion dollars to the residents of her state instead of letting the politicians spend it. McCain proved he is for the people by selecting a running mate that has proven she is as well.
Why can't anyone who's FOR McCain actually DEFEND McCain?
Interesting phenomenon.
While it is true that John MCCAIN is a weak candidate it proves that Obama is pitiful.. Seriously Obama despite all the media hype has been unable to sustain a lead over JOHN MCCAIN...Then when he needed to he picks one of the biggest insiders in Washington....OBAMA might even lose now...Palin may be inexperienced but she is going for the number 2 spot not number 1 like Obama. Palin is a simple straight shooting American woman, none of this BS OBAMA FLASH...RED AMERICA WILL VOTE FOR HER...SHE MIGHT EVEN WIN PRESIDENT IF SHE RAN ON HER OWN...What is JOE BIDEN going to do in the debate? beat up on a girl??? He can't win...This choice by MCCAIN WAS BRILLIANT....
