Reno council approves buying downtown post office

Thu, Aug 28, 2008 (7:21 a.m.)

The Reno City Council has approved buying the historic downtown post office for redevelopment along the Truckee River.

Officials say the $5.1 million deal should be finalized next month.

The building, designed by famed Reno architect Frederic DeLongchamps, was completed in 1934.

City officials any restoration work will preserve the building's historic properties.

Officials plan public workshops to define who the building will be used.

Preliminary design plans include a plaza leading to the river.
