Sign of a good time

People take pictures to share a time or a place with friends and family. Leila Navidi enjoys making pictures of people recording those special moments, and asking them — why then, why there, what does it mean to them? When they exchange snapshots, photographer and photographed share a memory from two perspectives. Wish you were here.
Becky Schommer of South Dakota, traveling with her mother and niece, visited 17 casinos in four days during her first trip to Las Vegas.
She takes a photo of the Welcome to Las Vegas sign on Las Vegas Boulevard on Sept. 13.
“We gambled a little in each one and took pictures,” Schommer said. “I just kept taking pictures and pictures. I did probably at least eight rolls. I took pictures from the airplane. I don’t fly that much. I got pictures of what I thought was Lake Mead. But I don’t think it was Lake Mead. I have a big photo album and scrapbook. On my special trips, I don’t do fancy paper or anything but I’ll do stickers. I have stickers that say, ‘What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas.’ ”
Schommer’s 79-year-old mother stayed in the car while Schommer and her niece darted across the busy street to photograph the iconic sign. “You see that sign everywhere. It’s the famous sign. So that’s the one thing you have to get a picture of. You see it coming in and you see it leaving. ‘Come back soon and drive safely.’ ”

I took 1300 in 7 days from Downtown to the Welcome sign next to Mandalay bay and when the economy rebounds I will be back for more. My laptop and computer screen looks nice with a different pic everyday.
Great story! I am Becky's niece that you mention in the article and I want to thank you for running the story in the paper. I've been to Vegas many times over the years and was very excited to finally snap a shot of one of the most famous signs in the US. Now Becky will have something else to include in her scrapbook :) Thanks again for another great memory of the trip. There's no place like Vegas!
