Ethics complaint dismissed against Pahrump board member
Tue, Aug 19, 2008 (4:25 p.m.)
CARSON CITY – Pahrump Town Board member Laurayne Murray has been cleared of any ethics violations related to a private meeting at which her firefighter husband was present to discuss a personnel matter.
Tim Murray is president of the local firefighters union and went before the closed-door Town Board meeting to talk about a settlement involving two employees who were disciplined. No vote was taken at the meeting on the proposed settlement.
Laurayne Murray received an advisory opinion she should not attend closed-door meetings at which collective bargaining for a firefighting contract is discussed with her husband.
The Ethics Commission said Laurayne Murray should not attend closed-door meetings not only involving contract negotiations but also disciplinary matters involving firefighters. But the commission said Laurayne Murray understood she was to stay out of only the meetings on contract negotiations.
It dismissed the complaint against Laurayne Murray.
