Porter launches campaign, attacks in House race

Republican Jon Porter has formally mounted his re-election campaign in Nevada's 3rd Congressional District.

Porter is seeking a fourth term representing the suburban sprawl around Las Vegas, including Henderson, Boulder City and parts of Summerlin.

At a small gathering Wednesday morning, Porter promised to find solutions to the energy crisis and the economic downturn. He called for more domestic oil drilling.

Porter attacked his opponent, Dina Titus, as a Democrat who will raise taxes and a politician who lives outside the district she wants to represent.

Porter and Titus easily won their parties' nominations in a low-profile, low-turnout primary Tuesday.

In northern Nevada, incumbent Republican Dean Heller also won, setting up a rematch against Democrat Jill Derby. Derby unveiled her energy platform Wednesday with a call for a massive renewable energy program.
