Man, 24, dies in single-car crash

Wed, Aug 6, 2008 (1:19 p.m.)

A 24-year-old man died after his 2006 Nissan Altima drifted into the center median and crashed into a steel power pole about 9:35 a.m. today, Metro Police said.

Evidence at the scene and a witness said the Nissan was traveling east in the left lane of Cheyenne Avenue near Desert Bluff Street when the crash occurred, police said.

The car appeared to drift into the raised center median, then continued eastward before hitting the pole, police said.

The man was taken to Mountain View Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical staff, police said.

The identification of the man is pending, the coroner's office said.

This is the 74th fatal accident in Metro Police jurisdiction this year.
