LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
McCain, in desperation, goes negative
Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008 | 2:03 a.m.
I am livid. I find unbelievable what John McCain is saying and what he is allowing to come from his campaign and surrogates.
Earlier this year he said he would not run a negative campaign, but rather a respectable one. His wife, Cindy McCain, said on the “Today” show in May, “No negative stuff will come from our side.”
Yet they have presented the lowest of low, disrespectable, negative, mean-spirited campaign I have ever witnessed. He says he talks straight, yet when he opens his mouth, out comes venom.
Barack Obama got beat up by McCain for not going to Iraq, then when Obama did go to Iraq and the trip was an international sensation, McCain went ballistic. McCain cannot have it both ways. (Like Bush, McCain thinks it’s his way or no way.)
McCain blames Obama for the gas price increase, which is absurd and ridiculous. McCain says Obama would lose the war in Iraq if it would help him win the election (sounds like a Bush/Rove tactic), thus questioning Obama’s patriotism — a lack of sensitivity on the part of McCain.
Now the lowest of all, comparing Obama to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. This sounds as if it is coming from a very desperate man who has resorted to shabby and nasty maneuvers.
McCain said he would not use his prisoner of war experience as a campaign ploy. Watch the ads and you will observe, he did not keep his word. He is starting to sound like a bitter, jealous, grumpy old man. Please, America, wake up! We need a change for the good of us all. And it is not another Bush administration.

High gas prices are killing Las Vegas.
The Democrats, Reid, Obama and Pelosi have locked up trillions of dollars of gas and oil for decades.
That has hurt us, is hurting us and will continue to hurt us.
Obama is part of the crowd that wants to keep extremely valuable resources locked up. I guess his job is not at risk or perhaps it is.
The only people in power who are arguing for the drilling are the Bush family and related cronies. They are OIL BARONS. Does it not occur to you that perhaps there is a bit of conflict of interest in taking advice about offshore drilling from an OIL BARON family? How can anyone possibly trust any oil advice from a DYNASTY that is based on OIL? Do you get it, yet?
Nance, if there is oil worth trillions, and it's unlocked, those trillions are not going to be coming to us in lower gas prices. Oil companies are experiencing record profits. That's the way it'll stay, whether there's new drilling or not. The money will go where it always does, and it will just delay the inevitable, while encouraging continuing waste. We need alternative fuels and alternative methods of transportation. We need planning.
teacher is like most Democrats.
They are very very very proud of the fact that they have locked up trillions of dollars of oil and gas.
They are very pround of their stubborness to even allow one drop of that trillions of dollars of gas and oil to come online.
The driving force behind high gas prices are that the capacity of supply is barely over the demand during the peak demand of the summer.
That is why contracts for promise of future delevery of oil is so valuable.
If we could just increase the safety margin between oil and gas.
If the market saw that the US was bringing new supply on board then there would be a relaxation of the anxiety that is occurring in the market.
New offshore drilling can start pumping new oil within 2 years.
20 years ago Democrats said...nope it will take years.
10 years ago Democrats said...nope it will take years.
I am very confident in 2018. When the price of gas is at $10 a gallion. teacher and the Democrats will say....Nope it will take years.
Future cost effective technologies to replace oil are decades away. The key word is cost effective.
Until we get there then we need to be wise.
It is extremely foolish to keep trillions of oil and gas locked away when we need it.
"New offshore drilling can start pumping new oil within 2 years."
I'm going to call you on this one. Name 5 experts who say this is possible.

I believe what our own country is telling us.
They say: "The projections in the OCS access case indicate that access to the Pacific, Atlantic, and eastern Gulf regions would not have a significant impact on domestic crude oil and natural gas production or prices before 2030. Leasing would begin no sooner than 2012, and production would not be expected to start before 2017. Total domestic production of crude oil from 2012 through 2030 in the OCS access case is projected to be 1.6 percent higher than in the reference case, and 3 percent higher in 2030 alone, at 5.6 million barrels per day. For the lower 48 OCS, annual crude oil production in 2030 is projected to be 7 percent higher—2.4 million barrels per day in the OCS access case compared with 2.2 million barrels per day in the reference case (Figure 20). Because oil prices are determined on the international market, however, any impact on average wellhead prices is expected to be insignificant. "
The republicans had a chance to put in amendments last week, but they refused! They could have passed oil drilling last week, but they said NO!
They don't want more drilling, because when oil prices are high the oil companies get more money and then contribute it to people like Jon Porter and Ted Stevens . Ted Stevens was indicted because the oil company paid for his house to be renovated.
Now we have to wait even longer for drilling to start. But the government says it won't have much of a help before 2017. And even when it does, it won't help the price of gas more.
I wish the republicans would have worked with the Democrats to pass the democrat's short-term energy solutions. I guess they don't want oil speculators to be regulated because it helps their stock values.
But they said NO! We won't pass any legislation now!
We will remember that in November, Jon Porter!
Gaming stocks have dropped over 33%.
Banks and venture capitalist are no longer lending to casinos.
Echelon is dead. MGM/Center City is having problems finding lenders.
Station Casinos is on the verge of declaring bankruptcy.
Gas prices is killing Las Vegas.
Democrats have locked trillions of oil and gas for years. They continue to lock it up.
It has hurt us, it is hurting us and it will continue to hurt us.
Gas prices is killing Las Vegas.
I agree, Las Vegas is hurting.
The republicans have been in control forever, and the economy has paid the price! The oil companies and the rich have gotten richer, while we all suffer!
John McCain said he is not an expert on the economy.
We need someone who is alot more confident on the economy than John McCain. That is the #1 issue to us!
And we need to replace do-nothing republicans like Jon Porter who refused to vote to help us last week!
I guess he was too busy raking in money from the oil companies to help us out!
Jon Porter is a Congressman.
The House is totally 100% controlled by Pelosi and the Democrats. So Porter can not stop anything in the House.
The Senate is controlled by Reid and the Democrats.
In the Senate, all the Republicans wanted was a full and free debate where they could offer amendments that the Democrats can easily vote down if they wanted.
The Democrats did not want to vote on some things because it would embarrass them to vote no or they would voted "yes" and things would have passed that Pelosi and Reid did not want to pass.
I agree, Porter cannot do anything to help us. He filed an application to have a bill voted on, but he even failed at that! He promised to get something done but he failed!
I guess you do not know much about how the house and senate work. The Democrats do not have all the seats. There are republicans in the house and senate.
They are lazy and do not want to vote. They stopped everything!
Americans want progresss. We do not want do-nothing republicans to prevent the house and senate from voting!
He could have voted to help us, but he didn't!
I think Jon Porter just doesn't care.
The Pelosi-led House started shutting down committees (Obey; Appropriations to start) rather than place the LSD on-the-record about their obstructions about domestic energy production and expansion.
I like what the Republican effort did here - is pretty good, from my chair. I want the LSDs on the record on off-shore drilling and refocusing on WHERE WE KNOW THERE ARE RESOURCES!
Congressional moratorium comes up for annual renewal in late September, I think.
To chase Pelosi out of Washington to avoid having the Democrat Members vote AGAINST like, 65-70% of the average-polled electorate who want domestic sources looked at - was good politics.
Minority Members in the House have little clout, but to run San Fran Nan out of town is a nice session finale.
I wish Bush would call all of them back in to hammer this expansion in domestic efforting for MORE and more reliable sources her at home.
Put the LSD on the record in opposition? "Bring it on"!!
Clinton is the one who vetoed ANWR.
When the Republicans held the Senate they could never get the 60 votes to get pass the Democrat's filibustering on ANWR and off shore drilling.
There's an inherent logical fallacy in that statement.
Clinton vetoed a bill that was approved by the House and Senate in 1996.
It would be impossible for Clinton to veto a bill that had "never get the 60 votes to get pass the Democrat's filibustering."
Obviously, it got through if Clinton vetoed it.
And if you can't explain the difference between being able to hold a vote on it, and never allowing the vote to happen then you really don't understand the rules involved in the House and Senate.
You got me....NOT!!!!!
Yes at one time the ANWR got passed by the Republican House and the Republican Senate with Democratic Support and Bill Clinton vetoed.
In later years (you know after Clinton left office), the Democrats refused to allow the bill be voted on when Republicans control the white house and they would filibuster it.
Wow.....what a concept.
First its veto.
Years later its gets filibustered.
You said "they could NEVER" right after saying Clinton had vetoed a bill.
Never? You disproved yourself!
Cognitive dissonance.
Haha! Sometimes my wife won't admit when she's wrong, either! She'll argue with me till she's blue in the face, and then she'll realize she was wrong all along!
jfnance you said never! I had to explain to you how the House and Senate worked before because you said the Democrats could pass anything, and that wasn't true, and this isn't true either.
The president can't sign a bill until it's been passed by the house and senate!
This is funny and reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEJL2Uuv-...
That is from schoolhouse rock and tells you how bills become law.
Score one for theBS....You can go asleep now.
You are right. I did not make myself clear.
Here is the correct version.
During the Clinton years, Republicans pass a bill to drill in ANWR. However, Clinton veto it.
Later after the Clinton years, Republicans tried to bring the measure up for a vote and Democrats filibustered it as they did many offshore drillling measures.
Is that clear now, theBS?
