FLASHPOINT:

A journalistic legend in Nevada retires

There are few journalistic legends — an overused word — in Nevada. Bob Stoldal is one. No one has had more influence on me professionally than Stoldal, the KLAS-TV vice president who announced his retirement from the station that I work for this week. His encyclopedic knowledge of both the medium he dominated here for decades and of the state he loves so much helped make him a nonpareil journalist. His eye for talent and his ability to mentor are unmatched. And Stoldal has this unerring ability to puncture the conventional wisdom, whether it comes from a bloviating politician or a pontificating pundit. No one I know in the business has a better nose for news, has more integrity. He will be missed, but his legacy is forever.
