Letter to the editor:

They may spend, but they also drain services

Regarding the Las Vegas Sun’s Monday story “Immigrants boost economy but how much?”:

There is no argument at all that illegal immigrants affect the economy, but it would be interesting to know how much they cost in each aspect of government services.

If most illegal immigrants expand the necessary services of government, this is a detriment to the people who pay the taxes. It would be interesting to know the cost to Clark County hospitals of prenatal care and what percentage of illegals pay for what they use.

Then there is the Clark County School District. Every article I read says the schools are overcrowded and they always need more money. Who pays for that expansion illegal aliens who have children, or the taxpayers? Oh, the taxpayers again.

Then there is the cost of crimes committed, the hit-and-runs, the graffiti, incarceration of illegal-alien criminals when they are caught for a crime other than being illegal, the interpreters needed, etc.

These are all costs that expand government and, therefore, the economy, but it would seem that they also greatly hurt the taxpaying citizen or legal immigrant of any background. Maybe it would be a real benefit to the economy not to expect the expansion of so many government services.
