Letter: President’s actions are what outrage us

Friday, Sept. 28, 2007 | 7:30 a.m.

I am totally exasperated. Just when I thought I heard it all, what does our president do and say? Something beyond all reason. He displayed a complete lack of good sense when addressing the United Nations on Tuesday, stating, "The Americans are outraged at the situation in Burma." Where did he receive the criterion on which to arrive at that conclusion?

Here are a few pointers for him as to exactly why many Americans are outraged:

We are outraged by his endless war in Iraq. We are outraged that he had the audacity to say there are 36 countries fighting alongside us in Iraq. We are outraged that he opposed a bill that would required our military to have time off between deployments (this is unconscionable). We are outraged that he opposed a bill to bring our troops home by a specified date. We are outraged that there are more civilians working for contractors (180,000) than members of the military in Iraq, and that the contractors are receiving what is known as a cash cow.

We are outraged that he vetoed a bill to permit extension of stem cell research . We are outraged that he is threatening to veto a bill for health care for children. And we are outraged that , by his own admission, he is passing on this war to the next administration. This means he has no intention of ending his war and it will go well beyond his presidency.

And, most important, we are outraged by the actions of this outrageous and grossly offensive president.

LaRue S. Boenig, Henderson
