Letter: Bush is ignoring will of the people
Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007 | 7:19 a.m.
Americans voted for a Democratic majority for two reasons - to end the war and to curtail President Bush's unprecedented power grab and assault on civil liberties. We need to bring our troops home before another 3,700 are killed.
We are fighting a n unwinnable war.
The Democrats are trying to bring the troops home but cannot get enough Republican votes for the 60 needed to pass the legislation to bring them home. Why bother having three branches of government if every time Bush claims executive privilege, plays the terror card or threatens a veto, the Republicans in Congress bow to his wishes like so many subservient loyal subjects?
It doesn't matter how many congressional subpoenas the Democrats issue or bills they pass, President Bush has made it clear that it's his government and he doesn't have to abide by the Constitution, follow U.S. laws or listen to the American people.
As Bush's term ends and he realizes that he will no longer be able to invade another country, or keep his enormous power, I'm afraid that he'll just crown himself king and refuse to leave , since he thinks he doesn't have to follow the law.
