Letter: Republicans’ fault that war still goes on
Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007 | 7:18 a.m.
It's with a very heavy heart that I wrote this letter, because I have severed ties to all Republicans. The most disturbing fact I've seen lately is the 70 percent approval rating of President Bush by Republicans. Exactly what planet do these people live on?
There is a civil war in Iraq, and our great young men and women should have been taken out of harm's way years ago, to let the Sunnis and Shiites fight it out. No more American lives should be wasted for Bush's war. But that's been impossible because of the Republican stubbornness.
Because this mess that Bush lied us into isn't going to go away for many more years, I have decided to disassociate myself from all Republicans; family and friends basically. It's their fault this illegal occupation is still going on. The American people elected Democrats to stop this war, and Republicans have become obstructionists.
Just cut them off. Maybe, just maybe, they will finally get the message and realize it's up to them to apply pressure to their Republican lawmakers to end this craziness and bring our people home. It has to be done, now.
Bush will bomb Iran by next year. Bush cares only about his legacy and not the people of Iraq. If he had cared about them, Bush would have improved their horrible electricity and clean water problems. Add 50 percent unemployment in Iraq and the picture isn't anywhere as rosy as Bush states.
