UNLV faculty, staff own up
Tightening up a previously lax reporting process, UNLV officials say they have moved closer to getting a handle on how many faculty and staff members earn outside income.
LOOKING IN ON: ENTERTAINMENT
Don't tell 81-year-old actor, singer, songwriter and voice coach David London that he's too old for anything - especially romance.
The prospect of County Commissioner Chip Maxfield declining to run...
The prospect of County Commissioner Chip Maxfield declining to run for reelection, a subject of whispers, was out in the open Monday when the Sun's Tony Cook quoted the incumbent as saying, "I am running for office unless I change my mind." Shermanesque, that ain't. Las Vegas Councilman Larry Brown has all but announced a challenge to Maxfield, so some will figure he doesn't want to confront a post-G-Sting campaign that has not been pleasant for any incumbent. No one seems to recall that Abizaid testified on Nov. 15 before the Senate Armed Services Committee. In that testimony Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., asked Abizaid whether he needed more troops. He replied as follows in these prophetic words:
Letter: Republicans' fault that war still goes on
There is a civil war in Iraq, and our great young men and women should have been taken out of harm's way years ago, to let the Sunnis and Shiites fight it out. No more American lives should be wasted for Bush's war. But that's been impossible because of the Republican stubbornness.
Editorial: The aging of Nevada
A report just released by the Sanford Center for Aging at UNR says that Nevada's senior population has for years been growing many times faster than the national rate and that, according to projections, its growth will lead the nation for at least the next two decades.
