Letter: No excuses for what president has done
Friday, Sept. 21, 2007 | 7:07 a.m.
Thursday morning my wife and I watched President Bush's press conference for as long as we could take it.
Here is a president who is so arrogant as to say to the press and the American public, "I remind people that, like when I'm with Condi (Rice) I say, she's the Ph.D. and I'm the C student, and just look who's the president and who's the adviser?" Well, we both guessed wrong.
With issues ranging from his entrance into and the conduct of a war with Iraq, the compilation of massive future national debt and total insistence on resolving the Social Security funding shortfall only one way - with privatization - his arrogance has become intolerable.
He spoke about how serious the funding shortfalls are in all entitlement programs, Medicare included, yet in nearly seven years of his presidency he has made only one feeble and shortsighted attempt at reversing the trend.
It is beyond my comprehension how the press and any American citizen can continue to absolve him, his administration and the congressional Republicans of the gross mismanagement of their offices.
It will now take decades, if ever, to repair the political, financial and policy damage these people have done both here and abroad. Only one more year to go! Good bye, Mr. Bush . It's not been nice knowing you.
