Letter: Time has run out on politely criticizing war
Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007 | 7:04 a.m.
We all have a place in our degree of patience where words are, or an event is, just too much and it sets us off. I have been criticizing the war in Iraq for a couple of years, and I think I have been quite polite and reserved in the way I have presented myself. No more!
There is just too much evidence that the Iraqis do not want us over there and do not appreciate our sacrifices of lives and resources. Yet, this administration has no idea how long this craziness should continue.
The thinking shared by most Americans is that withdrawal would save the lives of our soldiers , and the immense cost of this war could be redirected to a better cause, such as rebuilding New Orleans or lowering the debt. Those few who still support the war, please stop with your lame arguments that the White House has supplied you with; we have better ones.
This message is not being directed only to the Republicans who continue to support George Bush. America is waiting for the Democrats , who have a new found power in Congress, to wake up and do something. In some ways, their procrastination is as bad as the president's reluctance to change his failed plans.
To the administration, in the words of Bob Dylan: "How many deaths will it take till he knows that too many people have died?"
