Letter: How about a countdown for King George
Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007 | 7:12 a.m.
Well, last week Gen. David Petraeus testified pretty much the way King George wanted - not to suggest King George "coached" him when the president made his secret visit to Iraq on Labor Day , a week before the much-heralded testimony before Congress. Hmm?
Anyhow, the president, as expected, jumped on the general's suggestion and - ignoring the wishes the vast majority of Americans - is keeping most of the troops in harm's way until after his "reign" is over on Jan. 20, 2009. That way he can blame his successor for any problems from the war King George started.
Now here is the suggestion : Remember during the summertime how some sports pages printed Barry Bonds' home run total as it approached Hank Aaron's total ? Well, why can't the newspapers do the same for King George - in reverse. That is , print (as of today) there are only 489 days left in the reign of King George.
Just a suggestion to help everyone see the light at the end of this dark political tunnel we are in.
