Letter: Bush, not Petraeus, is betraying nation
Friday, Sept. 14, 2007 | 7:36 a.m.
MoveOn.org missed the point. It is not Gen. David Petraeus who betrayed us ; it is our president, who in addition is destroying the Republican Party.
This administration's objective is to kick Iraq to the next administration. The Republican Party will be the one to face the music.
As a country, we will have to wait until 2009 to begin to solve this problem.
In the meantime, an average of 75 American soldiers will lose their lives each month. Thousands more will face a life with disabilities. In addition, we will waste $9 billion a month. By my calculation, that is 1,275 needless deaths, thousands wounded and $153 billion to satisfy one man's delusion.
I truly feel sorry for those families who will bear the true cost of this debacle.
I only hope that we can overcome and somehow ensure that we don't make the same mistakes again.
