Letter: Even the incompetent have their cheerleaders
Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007 | 6:57 a.m.
"Ignorance is bliss" may be a cliche, but Lee S. Gliddon Jr.'s Sept. 6 letter extolling George W. Bush for "doing a great job" shows that cliches are alive and well. Apparently Mr. Gliddon didn't read the memo about the president that the rest of the nation saw. With his approval rating hovering around 30 percent, most Americans have made a more enlightened judg ment about the "Decider."
Deluding himself that it "grates on the liberals" because a few folks with rose-colored glasses welded to their eyeballs still rally around W., Mr. Gliddon is in dire need of a reality check. "Things are looking just dandy" is the same sentiment offered by the captain of the Titanic, before slamming into an iceberg.
Unfortunately, most of the country believes that with "43," as Mr. Bush is known to his intimates, at the helm we have either hit the iceberg or a collision is imminent.
But there will always be a few current events-challenged cheerleaders and apologists for an incompetent leader. Some folks are chronically behind the curve.
