FLASHPOINT for Sep 07, 2007

Friday, Sept. 7, 2007 | 7:30 a.m.

Las Vegas once again is a leader, and the East Coast is taking notice. No, it has nothing to do with tourism or downtown redevelopment. It has to do with suing the federal government. Over airport flight paths. Seems the city isn't alone and back East, the same tactic is being employed in one of the most congested areas in the country: The New York metropolitan area. The New York Times reports that Elizabeth, N.J., has filed a federal lawsuit to block the Federal Aviation Administration from imposing a plan to reduce delays at New York and Philadelphia airports. There's even a group called New Jersey Coalition Against Aircraft Noise, and a U.S. senator is on board. All Las Vegas could get was a congresswoman (Shelley Berkley) to act sympathetic.
