Letter: All American citizens deserve health care

Monday, Sept. 3, 2007 | 12:57 p.m.

It's hard to miss the commercial that shows a woman stating that she lost her job, and therefore her health insurance, and didn't know how she could pay for her prescriptions. Then a talk show host pops up, and says that because the woman "qualified," that the pharmaceutical industry would provide her medications for free. Unsaid is what would have happened if she didn't qualify - I guess she would wither and die.

What we have to realize is that if this woman were French, German, British, Canadian or a citizen of a score or more of other industrialized nations that provide health care for their citizens, losing her job, or her economic status, has no consequence - she would get her medications no matter what.

Seniors currently have the Medicare drug plan to provide the medicine they need. In a country as wealthy as America, it's time we provide for the health care needs for all of our citizens.

Union provides free publicity for law firm

I would like to express my thanks to the local carpenters union for the extremely valuable service it has been rendering to our law firm, free of charge.

Last month we moved from our previous location at Jones Boulevard and U.S. 95 to our new location at the Beltway and Town Center Drive. Although we have attempted to let all of our clients and friends know about our new location, some have inevitably missed our announcements or experienced difficulties in finding us.

Out of the goodness of their hearts and without any prompting from us, representatives of the union have braved scorching temperatures to sit outside our new offices and safeguard a banner which they created. When we receive calls from clients who are trying to find the building, we simply tell them to look for the banner that says "SHAME ON BOLICK & BOYER" in large, red letters.

There is one request I have, however, for the union. Rather than leaving every day promptly at 2 p.m., would it be possible for your workers to stay until 5 p.m.? We need the publicity. Thank you.
