Letter: How Steinbrenner has cursed his team

In the history of baseball, the Boston Red Sox blamed the "Bambino curse" for an 84-year World Series drought; similarly, the Chicago Cub s blame a hapless goat for their fruitless efforts to win a spot in the World Series.

New York Yankees manager Joe Torre departed following the defeat of the Yankees in the recent American League playoffs. Amid a storm of controversy over George Steinbrenner's crude and cruel tactics to force him out, the Yankees now have their own version of a baseball curse. With many of the players with free agent status unknown and uncertain, the makeup of the 2008 roster and management bodes poorly for the Yankees.

In the future, hapless Yankees and their loyal, disappointed fans will look back on the closing events of the 2007 season as the beginning of the "Curse of George Steinbrenner." From this season forward, I predict a long, hard drought in their future with many non-World Series seasons for the Yankees.

Sometime in the distant future the Yankees may be sold to someone else and thus break the "Curse of George Steinbrenner" that began in 2007.
