Letter: It’s wrong to make Bush the scapegoat

Monday, Oct. 29, 2007 | 7:08 a.m.

Regarding John Dombeck's Oct. 26 letter, "So this president is riding to the rescue?":

Of all the misinformed bunch of criticism directed at our president, this one takes the cake.

California and Louisiana have governors who are to take the responsibility for the states they represent.I assume Utah, where Mr. Dombeck writes from, does as well.

What did Mr. Dombeck expect the president to do when he has an entire country to guide (whether or not you agree with his policies). Hold the fire hose? Man the boats?

Mr. Dombeck should get the facts about the Louisiana mess.New Orleans'mayor goofed up and probably cost a lot of people their lives and caused them a great deal of needless suffering because he didn't employ at least 100, if not more, school buses to get the people to safer ground.

The U.S. Congress voted and Louisiana received at least $6 billion in aid. For months they neglected handling the affairs of their state. The Louisianagovernor and the mayor of New Orleans are both at fault here.Months after Katrina they were still sitting on their hands.

Did Mr. Dombeck believe that the president should have overthrown the Louisiana state government to get action?

Instead of taking action whereby unemployed people could be trained to build, which was needed there greatly and still may be today, no one took the helm.

Several months after Katrina, a talk show host had the Louisiana state treasurer discussing the fact that Louisiana had the money but wasn't dealing with the problems.

Meanwhile, the children's health plan, which was mentioned by Mr. Dombeck, has certain questions to be ironed out , but that is a separate issue altogether.

I hope that Mr. Dombeck will get his facts together before he shares his ill-informed opinions with us.
