Letter: Congress turns back on innocent children
Monday, Oct. 29, 2007 | 7:09 a.m.
Congress, in its infinite wisdom and clairvoyance, has failed to pass legislation that would assist certain members of society to achieve the American way of life. The children of illegal, undocumented residents, born here and under age 16, who want to become educated beyond the 11th grade, or join our depleted military force, will not have a defined path by which they can become gainfully employed, taxpaying citizens.
Did our wise representatives in Washington, D.C., want more young people hanging out at Star Nursery each day? Do we really need more gardeners, produce pickers, gangbangers, etc., who have no steady employment and no hope of ever advancing their ambitions?
The strength of our society is in the education of all people and not in the "political correctness" of turning our backs on children who happen to be born into a family that is here because those children elsewhere would probably become wasted lives. What a large, clouded crystal ball sits in the halls of Congress.
