A MOMENT CAPTURED
Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007 | 7:15 a.m.
With a grocery bag , warm sunshine and a strong breeze, Lambert Basil, center, and a friend chuck bits of whole wheat pita bread - bought especially for the occasion - at dozens of ducks and the attentive pigeons nearby at the pond in Sunset Park.
Basil retired this year because of the effects of a stroke and often drives around looking for things to do to occupy his days. On a recent morning he called a friend he hadn't seen since before his stroke, and she suggested they go to the park to feed the ducks, as she does regularly.
While his friend focused on tossing the bits of bread up and down the pond's shore, $5 worth purchased on the way to the park, Basil mostly gazed out over the water, soaking up the perfect desert autumn day, tearing bits of bread here and there and feeding the feathered loiterers.
And though the streets surrounding the park rushed with mid week traffic, for the time being, Basil found some peace and pleasant company this day in a little bit of Vegas nature.
