Letter: Bush assumes more power with war

In World War II we had a declared war that was passed through our Congress, which speaks for all of us.

Since then the Korean War, the Vietnam War and all the other scrimmages we've been in were started under more of a resolution of military action, not really a declaration of war. We know that in a time of declared war the president has emergency powers that let him go above and beyond our laws for the common welfare of this country, whatever he thinks is necessary.

But because Iraq hasn't been an actual war declared by Congress, why are we letting President Bush drive right through this hole in our Constitution as if it were a declared war - which it is not ?

I am afraid that, as with all tyrants, war is the key to their power, and more of it allows them more and more power over the people.
