Letter: Deceit has become a lifestyle for Craig
Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007 | 7:17 a.m.
Idaho Sen. Larry Craig's appearance on "Dateline" with Matt Lauer was a travesty.
Being gay is not a crime. However, soliciting sex (whether gay or otherwise) in a public bathroom is abhorrent and against the law.
Larry Craig has lied so much that it seems he now actually believes his own lies. Is he saying that the undercover policeman singled him out and contrived the events that happened in the men's bathroom at the Minneapolis-St.Paul airport? Did Larry Craig not listen to the clear-cut tell-all tape of his interrogation by police?
If innocent, why, when this charge of disorderly conduct became public, did Larry Craig immediately apologize and say it was his intent to resign from the Senate? It stands to reason, if one is accused of a crime of which he is innocent, the first thing one does is demand legal counsel and proceed to press charges against the maker of the false accusation.
He does not wait a few weeks, think it over and then plead guilty to make the charge go away - as Larry Craig did.
This type of reasoning is preposterous. If he had any guts, he would have apologized, said he made a mistake and that he had no such intention to resign from the Senate.
Remember, being gay is not a crime. What Larry Craig did and what he is now doing by his absurd deceitfulness are a disgrace.
