Letter: Bush tenure has been a national nightmare

A recent letter by Frank O'Neill ("Counting the days until Bush is gone," Oct. 15) clearly reinforces my feelings about our current president, George W. Bush. I'm counting the days until GWB heads back to Texas. The amount of damage that he and his administration have done to this country is immeasurable. It may well take a decade or more to undo the damage caused by the inept policies and bad decisions of the Bush White House.

The unneeded and never-ending war in Iraq, the huge budget deficit that we are faced with, the lack of a concise energy policy, the broken borders and the decline of the American dollar against most foreign currencies are only part s of the problem. We have also lost the support of many of our longtime allies around the world, we have seen millions of American jobs outsourced to other countries, and we are borrowing billions of dollars weekly to pay our monthly bills.

The Bush White House's answer for health care reform has 47 million Americans with no health care coverage. In the name of national security, the FBI, the CIA and the attorney general have been given a free hand to spy on Americans in every possible way.

The recent debacle with the Blackwater security group in Iraq makes one wonder whether there's anything that the Bush administration has done in Iraq that is credible and noteworthy.

Yes, I must agree with Mr. O'Neill. I'm counting the days until the Bush administration is just a footnote in history. Nightmares come and go and, thank goodness, so will the Bush administration.
