Letter: Congress should ignore Bush’s wishes
Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007 | 7:25 a.m.
I have finally come to understand my true feelings about George W. Bush, the president of the United States for seven years now and one more to go. He has held me captive, along with the rest of the American citizens. Only he can decide our foreign policy. Only he can decide the laws that will be enacted. Only he can decide which information about what he is doing can be shared with the American people, even with Congress. Only he can decide our fate.
Our Congress is also held captive, though we, the American people, tried to help them escape in 2006 by giving Congress a Democratic majority in the House and the Senate. Yet Bush still continues to control, to hold them captive. For he has enough Republican cohorts to thwart any changes from what he wants. And so the captivity continues.
Is there no way to gain freedom? Or, must we continue to wait out another year for freedom to arrive? Where are the statesmen that America has been known worldwide for? Why are these Republican representatives and senators still choosing to follow the dictates of this man, who has brought America nothing but shame? He has ruined the reputation of America worldwide and brought us massive debt. And he is only continuing to do worse.
Are we sentenced to another year of this abuse or can all the men and women in Congress listen to the concerns and desires of all their constituents and vote accordingly? I continue to write Sen. John Ensign and hope.
