Dirty sheets, towels a bargaining chip
A labor strike against a Strip resort is always serious business, but there's another threat unfolding that could prove even more disruptive - a possible Culinary Union strike against the industrial laundry that washes, dries, presses and folds 85 percent of the sheets, towels and napkins used by Las Vegas tourists.
Jon Ralston on Rudy, Hillary, political staffs and Craig Walton
"Every time she improves her position, she abets Giuliani," Hart said. "The one thing that unites Republicans is their loathing of the Clintons.

Ghost stops on literary tour, and a plea for preservation
Writers love to write about Las Vegas. Praise us. Berate us. Fiction or nonfiction, we're covered. It would seem , then , that a literary tour of Las Vegas would be a never-ending, riveting romp - a chance to experience the voice and place in the same moment.
Letter: Bush's actions are within his powers
A time of war is a situation when the executive branch of the federal government may need to expand powers to deal with specific circumstances. This administration has shown the backbone to fight this war on terror while congressional Democrats take on the role of pacifists.

Editorial: The lighter side of science
They were in Cambridge, Mass., to award the Ig Nobel prizes, which laud laughable work. This year's winners included the Air Force for exploring research on a so-called "gay bomb" to make enemy troops so irresistible to each other they couldn't fight and a group of Argentine researchers who found that hamsters recover more quickly from jet lag when they take Viagra.
Letter: We're all paying for president's mistakes
However legitimate it is fiscally to ponder such an idea at this point, it is difficult to get around the fact that our country's citizens would be paying for the mistakes of one of the most suspect presidents this country has ever had the misfortune of enduring. I wish we could just completely get out of Iraq, but the reality is we are stuck there holding up a house of cards indefinitely.
Editorial: Ensuring justice with DNA
Nothing could be done about the years wasted behind bars, but his reputation, at least, was restored through the work of the Innocence Project.
Union presses downtown casino owners
Of all the concerns facing casino and hotel workers in Las Vegas over the years, they haven't had to worry much about their employer shutting down and leaving them on the street with no severance pay. Las Vegas is growing, not dying.

Field: Often called "all others," meaning any candidate that does not appear on a particular list of teams or individuals in a betting proposition. Not to be confused with the "field" bet in craps, in which the player wins if the next roll of the dice is 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12, but loses if it's 5, 6, 7, or 8.
Coffeehouse recruiting
The young man in the coffee shop struggled with his broken cell phone while help sat at the next table, where capable men drank iced mochas. Men in uniform. At first he thought they were in the Air Force.
Letter: Rich and powerful driving us to war
How relevant the words when reading the Las Vegas Sun's article ("Powerful in Vegas, hawkish toward Iran," Oct. 7) about Sheldon Adelson, a man who made his fortune from the throws of the dice, using some of that wealth to support Freedom's Watch. Peel back the veneer and the drumbeat to attack Iran is there for all to hear.
Editorial: Homework for the parents
It is an easy premise to preach. In practice it becomes harder. With both parents apt to be putting in long hours at work, what can a schoolteacher do to bring about genuine involvement?
