FLASHPOINT for Oct 09, 2007

Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007 | 7:12 a.m.

Sometimes coincidences happen in politics. And sometimes government can be used to announce that coincidence, which helps the elected official's incipient campaign for a higher office. You see, Las Vegas Councilman Larry Brown, who has indicated to friends and allies that he is likely to run for the Clark County Commission, has been named Elected Official of the Year by the Nevada League of Cities. This announcement came Monday, the first opportunity to reveal this award since Commissioner Chip Maxfield, who would have been Brown's opponent, announced his retirement. And Brown will get the award at Wednesday's council meeting. Maybe a campaign crew will be there to take pictures. Or maybe the city folks will take care of that.
