Letter: Don't let leaders start war in Iran
I was all for us going into Afghanistan to chase al-Qaida. We had them and the Taliban on the run, but Bush did a cut-and-run into an ill-advised and mismanaged war in Iraq.
Letter: Clean up our local governments first
Ms. York, let's start here in Clark County. If the people really care, then let us find and vote into office honest, ethical and moral candidates. I care less about which political party the person belongs to because both parties fail the litmus test on the above qualities. So let us clean Las Vegas et al. before we try to clean Washington .

Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., proposed the plan before, but it was killed with the major immigration overhaul bill earlier this year. His bill would allow children of undocumented immigrants to stay if they grew up here, and they could gain permanent legal status if they complete high school and at least two years of military service or postsecondary education.

Sometimes coincidences happen in politics. And sometimes government can be used to announce that coincidence, which helps the elected official's incipient campaign for a higher office. You see, Las Vegas Councilman Larry Brown, who has indicated to friends and allies that he is likely to run for the Clark County Commission, has been named Elected Official of the Year by the Nevada League of Cities. This announcement came Monday, the first opportunity to reveal this award since Commissioner Chip Maxfield, who would have been Brown's opponent, announced his retirement.
