FLASHPOINT for Oct 06, 2007

Not since another Nevada senator advised Philippine strongman Ferdinand Marcos to "cut and cut cleanly" has a member of the Club of 100 so brutally advised someone to abdicate. But John Ensign's "he should do the right thing and keep his word" statement about Larry Craig's pledge to resign brings to mind Paul Laxalt's admonition of yore. It looks as if the promise-keeping junior senator is being influenced by the other half of Harry Ensign - the utter ruthlessness of Ensign's statements are redolent of Harry Reid. Reid must be so proud. Ensign continues to insist that it's because of Craig's promise and surely had nothing to do with him being believed by some to be gay. Not, I'm sure Ensign would say, that there's anything wrong with that.
