Letter: Kids learn better than ever, online

Regarding the Las Vegas Sun's Oct. 2 editorial "A virtual lesson":
America is about options. Options on where to live, what to drive and , most important to parents, how to educate our children. The option that has been the most effective for my family is the Nevada Virtual Academy. When their brick s -and-mortar school was not challenging enough, I was torn between keeping them where they were or teaching them at home myself. Fortunately, I heard about another option.
Nevada Virtual Academy is a public online charter school that lets me be involved in their learning process. They have an individualized curriculum that we follow and dedicated teachers who are certified , and I am there for additional support. I am more involved in their learning than I ever have been before and the results speak for themselves.
My children's grades are getting higher and , more important , they have begun to take on a new pride in their academic pursuits. My children have also made numerous friends in the process - and have even made friends with online charter school students across the country. There is no greater joy to a parent than seeing her child's excitement about learning.
I hope the Sun will focus on the myriad positive aspects of educational options such as Nevada Virtual Academy , which is giving my children more options for their future.
