Letter: Schooling in Nevada is worthwhile, valued

Regarding Charlotte Hsu's Sept. 29 story "Anywhere but Nevada, top students say":
University of Never Leaving Vegas? The joke is old and somewhat true, but there are those of us who choose to not leave Las Vegas, who attended UNLV by choice and circumstance (not for lack of excellent academics or laziness), and who have used their experience, knowledge and expertise to give back to the community that raised us.
Ask any 18-year-old would-be freshman in any city in the United States where he wishes to live and/or attend school; the default answer (even if it is couched in other phrases) is "anywhere but here." They are at the height of the juvenile "grass is always greener" phase of life.
It might just be worth it to spotlight those of us who value their UNLV education and who did fairly well for themselves because of (and not in spite of) it.
