Letter: President has every right to speak for us
Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007 | 7:01 a.m.
Last week President Bush addressed the United Nations , and during his talk he stated that Americans are outraged about the situation in Burma. Not only does he have every right to make that statement, but I'm pleased that he did.
Friday morning, while reading the letters to the editor in the Las Vegas Sun, I was disappointed that LaRue S. Boenig took such offense to that U.N. speech. Boenig says she is outraged, exasperated and that Bush displayed a complete lack of good sense when addressing the United Nations. Boenig wants to know where the president received the criterion on which to arrive at that conclusion .
Well, Bush is the elected president of our constitutional republic, he is the most informed official in our country, he is intelligent and has a high moral standard. He has every right to make a judgment or criticism about world affairs.
He is our highest elected representative.
The most repugnant part of Boenig's letter is when she arrogantly offered some pointers as to why many Americans are outraged. Then she starts nine thoughts with "We are outraged ..." I am outraged that she dares to think she speaks for many Americans.
Certainly, there are some who may agree with her, but where did she receive the criterion to speak for most Americans?
