By now you probably have heard that the Las Vegas City Council has on its agenda today the introduction of a proposal to raise elected official salaries by dramatic amounts - more than 50 percent for the council and more than 100 percent for the mayor. They should be raised. But this has been handled terribly - the huge increases - and given certain death - the inclusion of car allowances, a ridiculous perk. So be it. But what's almost as bad is the cover that city staffers have given the elected folks by preparing a "Business Impact Statement" that, shockingly, found absolutely no effects at all. None. That is, it will have no adverse, beneficial, direct or indirect effects on businesses - that's what the form says. No effect at all. Good to know.
