Letter: Nevada’s D.C. delegation must act on energy

I've been watching Washington fiddle with an energy bill. First the Senate does this and that, then the House does something, but they don't do it together.

I've been watching oil prices climb. Right before the Thanksgiving weekend, gas prices popped again.

And I've been listening to reports of global warming. More storms, more flooding. Polar bears in trouble, coral reefs in trouble.

Enough is enough!

We need strong action for strong times.

Congress needs to make up its mind and decide to do something decisive and positive.

I've been watching our men and our woman in Washington. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has been working hard to lead the charge, and Rep. Shelley Berkley in the House has been doing her best. Sen. John Ensign supports a national renewable energy standard - he knows that Nevada led the nation years ago with our own state standard for renewable energy.

But we need more leadership from Reps. Dean Heller and Jon Porter on both the renewable energy standard and the fuel efficiency standard. We need support from Ensign on the fuel efficiency standard.

What do they have against getting more miles per gallon? Surely American technology is up to the challenge. Pass the fuel efficiency standard and get it done.

All five of our politicians in Washington can be heroes for us. We need aggressive renewable energy now. We need more miles per gallon in our cars and trucks. And we need it now. Nevada's future depends on it.
