Letter: Abortion violates basic human rights

Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007 | 7:28 a.m.

In the ongoing debate over abortion, one could statistically demonstrate that "legal" abortions have resulted in permanent damage and even maternal deaths. Moreover, it has been intelligently argued that individual, "personal" choice should not then entail confiscating resources and compromising consciences of those opposed to abortion via taxes and government policies and programs.

Worse, in recent decades this has been expanded by the United States, funding and promoting myriad international contraceptive and abortion plans, including at least benign acceptance of foreign government abuse and, ironically, the denial of human rights.

Yet, all of this matters not in the least in comparison to the plain truth that premeditated abortion is the murder of a developing child, ultimately by the one person who should be protecting and nurturing him or her in the womb.
