Letter: Zoo is small but needs an upgrade
Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007 | 7:39 a.m.
To follow up on the Nov. 18 letter from Erica Passman of Glendale, Calif., "City should support a first-class zoo": She is right about the Las Vegas Zoo's being rundown. I thought it a nice small zoo for a small town but not for a major city.
I tweaked my knee twice and saw a child twist an ankle there. I swear there is not much level ground to walk on and potholes and slopes with broken cement are everywhere you walk.
The staff was extremely friendly, though, and I think they deserve more money from the city to fix the place up and make it a high-quality small zoo.
I have heard Mayor Oscar Goodman in the past say this is an adult city. The good mayor is right, but who makes this city thrive? The casinos do, and the workers who make everything run just happen to be the Las Vegas residents with families.
We really need an indoor zoo, because who wants to walk around outside in triple-digit heat for an hour or two?
