AP-Yahoo Poll Highlights
Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007 | 11:13 a.m.
The HORSE RACE, THE DEMOCRATS:
Hillary Clinton: 48 percent
Barack Obama: 22 percent
John Edwards: 13 percent
Undecided: 12 percent
All other candidates: under 5 percent
THE HORSE RACE, THE REPUBLICANS:
Rudy Giuliani: 27 percent
Fred Thompson: 17 percent
John McCain: 16 percent
Mitt Romney: 13 percent
Mike Huckabee: 10 percent
Undecided: 13 percent
WIGGLE ROOM:
DEMOCRATS: Three-fourths of Edwards supporters say they might change their minds, compared with 55 percent of Obama supporters and 43 percent of Clinton's.
REPUBLICANS: Three-fourths of McCain backers are similarly squishy, compared with two-thirds of those backing Giuliani, Thompson and Romney.
BILL vs. HILLARY:
More people have a favorable opinion of Bill Clinton than Hillary Clinton, 54 percent to 48 percent.
WHAT MATTERS MOST:
Half of Democrats say candidates' personal qualities are more important than their policy positions, compared with 42 percent who place more importance on issues.
Half of Republicans say issues are more important, compared with 43 percent who think personal qualities matter most.
Exceptions: Supporters of Giuliani and McCain think personal qualities are more important. And both get high marks for experience and strength.
FRED WHO?
Forty-one percent of Republicans say they haven't heard enough about Fred Thompson to have an opinion about him.
PICTURE PERFECT:
When it comes to who's attractive, Democratic candidates get the nod; Republicans, not so much.
Asked which of the Democratic candidates are attractive, Clinton, Edwards and Obama all get the thumbs-up from more than half of Democratic voters.
When Republicans give the GOP candidates a look-see, Romney's 37 percent is the best of the lot. Giuliani gets 31 percent, McCain 25 percent and Thompson 21 percent.
BOWLING ALONE?
Some Democrats just would rather not go bowling with Hillary Clinton, thank you very much.
When voters are asked who they'd least like to have as a bowling partner, Clinton is as unpopular with Obama supporters as are Giuliani and Thompson, each singled out by 19 percent.
Ask the same question of Edwards supporters, and 26 percent give Clinton the boot.
Among Republicans, Clinton is hands-down the bowling partner from hell, singled out by three-fourths of GOP voters.
