US Military Deaths in Iraq at 3,866

As of Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, at least 3,866 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes eight military civilians. At least 3,147 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military's numbers.

The AP count is five higher than the Defense Department's tally, last updated Thursday at 10 a.m. EST.

The British military has reported 171 deaths; Italy, 33; Ukraine, 18; Poland, 21; Bulgaria, 13; Spain, 11; Denmark, seven; El Salvador, five; Slovakia, four; Latvia, three; Estonia, Netherlands, Thailand, Romania, two each; and Australia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, South Korea, one death each.

- A soldier was killed Wednesday by an explosion in Diyala province.

The latest identifications reported by the military:

- Army Spc. Derek R. Banks, 24, Newport News, Va.; died Wednesday in San Antonio of wounds suffered Oct. 25 in Baghdad when an explosive struck his vehicle; assigned to the 237th Engineer Company, 276th Engineer Battalion, 91st Troop Command, Virginia National Guard, West Point, Va.

- Army Pfc. Casey P. Mason, 22, Lake, Mich., died Tuesday of small-arms fire in Mosul; assigned to the 728th Military Police Battalion, 8th Military Police Brigade, 8th Theater Sustainment Command, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
