U.S. Deaths in Afghanistan, Region

As of Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, at least 398 members of the U.S. military had died in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan as a result of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, according to the Defense Department. The department last updated its figures Nov. 10, 2007, at 10 a.m. EST.
Of those, the military reports 269 were killed by hostile action.
Outside the Afghan region, the Defense Department reports 62 more members of the U.S. military died in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Of those, two were the result of hostile action. The military lists these other locations as Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, Cuba; Djibouti; Eritrea; Jordan; Kenya; Kyrgyzstan; Philippines; Seychelles; Sudan; Tajikistan; Turkey; and Yemen.
There were also four CIA officer deaths and one military civilian death.

The latest identifications reported by the military:
- Two Army soldiers died Monday in Bermel, Afghanistan, when their vehicle was struck by an explosive. Both were assigned to the 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Schweinfurt, Germany.
Killed were Capt. David A. Boris, 30, Pennsylvania; and Spc. Adrian E. Hike, 26, Callender, Iowa.
