Rangers Hand Flyers First Home Loss

Henrik Lundqvist kept the New York Rangers perfect in shootouts, and spoiled the Philadelphia Flyers' spotless record at home. Lundqvist made 20 saves and Brendan Shanahan scored the only goal in a shootout to lead the Rangers to a 4-3 win over the Flyers on Thursday night, handing Philadelphia its first home loss of the season.

Lundqvist stopped all three shots in the shootout. He's stopped eight of nine shots he's faced in three shootouts, all Rangers wins.

"The big key to us in shootouts is Hank," Shanahan said. "He puts you in a position where you're skating up the ice with the puck with a chance to win it as opposed to playing from behind."

Shanahan scored on New York's second shootout attempt and beat Martin Biron.

Shanahan, Fedor Tyutin and Petr Prucha scored for the Rangers in regulation, helping them move into a tie with the Flyers for first place in the Atlantic Division.

"It shows that we're doing something right," Shanahan said.

Jim Dowd, Danny Briere and Denis Tolpeko scored for the Flyers, who were hoping to move to 7-0 at home for the first time since the 1986-87 season.

In other NHL games, it was: Ottawa 3, Buffalo 2; Boston 5, Toronto 2; Pittsburgh 3, the New York Islanders 2; Florida 2, Washington 1; Nashville 5, Chicago 4 in overtime; San Jose 6, Phoenix 0; Minnesota 4, Edmonton 2 and Anaheim 6, Los Angeles 3.

The Flyers, who were getting badly outshot again much like they have all season, started attacking Lundqvist midway through the third. But he made some amazing saves that nearly silenced Philadelphia's momentum.

Tolpeko, though, changed all that with his first career goal. Jason Smith's shot bounced off Lundqvist and Tolpeko was ready near the crease to slip in the puck and even the score at 3.

Prucha ended a scoreless drought that stretched back to opening night with a slap shot early in the third that put the Rangers ahead 3-2.

Senators 3, Sabres 2

Daniel Alfredsson scored a pair of first-period goals and Martin Gerber made 35 saves for his NHL-leading 12th win in host Ottawa's victory over Buffalo.

Alfredsson, who played his 800th regular-season game, opened the scoring with his 14th goal 6:32 in. The Ottawa captain got his second goal of the period - his 15th of the season - on a power play at 18:53.

Shean Donovan scored in the second period for the Senators, who improved to 15-2-0.

Jochen Hecht and Derek Roy scored for Buffalo.

Bruins 5, Maple Leafs 2

Peter Schaefer had a pair of third-period goals, Marc Savard scored 19 seconds into the game and Tim Thomas stopped 34 shots to lead host Boston.

Marco Strum and Glen Metropolit also scored for the Bruins.

Kyle Wellwood had a power-play goal and Alexei Ponikarovsky scored for the Maple Leafs, who have lost four of five.

Penguins 3, Islanders 2

Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin extended long points streaks and Georges Laraque scored for the first time in 40 games to help host Pittsburgh break a four-game losing streak.

Sergei Gonchar had a goal and an assist and Petr Sykora also scored for the Penguins.

Mike Comrie and Josef Vasicek scored for New York.

Malkin had two assists to extend his point streak to 12 games - with five goals and 14 assists in that time - and Crosby assisted on Laraque's winning goal late in the second period to extend his streak to 18 games (10 goals, 18 assists). The streak is the longest of Crosby's career.

Ducks 6, Kings 3

Corey Perry had two goals and an assist, and Chris Kunitz added three assists to lead visiting Anaheim.

The victory was the Ducks' second over Los Angeles in three nights.

Ducks goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere and Kings counterpart Jean-Sebastien Aubin each made 26 saves.

Wild 4, Oilers 2

Eric Belanger had a career-high four assists to help Minnesota snap a two-game losing streak with a victory over host Edmonton.

Belanger set up goals by Martin Skoula, Marian Gaborik, Kurtis Foster and Mark Parrish and Niklas Backstrom. Jarret Stoll scored twice for the Oilers.

It was the first victory in six tries on the road for the Wild (10-6-2), 8-0-1 in their past nine games against Edmonton.

Predators 5, Blackhawks 4, OT

Martin Erat scored at 19 seconds of overtime to give host Nashville a victory over Chicago.

Erat, skating through the low slot, deflected a pass from Radek Bonk off Chicago defenseman Brent Seabrook's skate by goalie Nikolai Khabibulin.

Alexander Radulov scored a goal and added two assists for the Predators.

Jason Williams scored the tying goal with 43 seconds remaining in regulation for Chicago.

Jason Arnott, Vernon Fiddler and Radek Bonk also scored for the Predators. Jonathan Toews, James Wisniewski and Patrick Sharp were the other goal scorers for the Blackhawks.

Sharks 6, Coyotes 0

Evgeni Nabokov made 15 saves to record his second shutout in four days to lead visiting San Jose.

Joe Pavelski scored a pair of power-play goals, Patrick Rissmiller had a goal and an assist, and Jeremy Roenick, Devin Setoguchi and Steve Bernier also scored for the Sharks who have won four straight.

Nabokov's shutout was his third this season and the 37th of his career.

Panthers 2, Capitals 1

Richard Zednik and Kamil Kreps scored to help host Florida snap a four-game losing streak.

Alex Ovechkin scored for the Capitals, who have dropped six of seven games and 15 of 18 since starting the season 3-0.

Florida goalie Tomas Vokoun made 25 saves. Olie Kolzig finished with 23 stops for Washington.
